Anastrozole – Arimidex

Anastrozole, sold under the brand name Arimidex, is a selective aromatase inhibitor. It works by blocking the enzyme that converts androgens like testosterone into oestrogen, which keeps oestrogen levels in check when running an aromatising compound. It is a support drug rather than an anabolic one, so it will not add muscle or strength on its own.

As a guide and not medical advice, users commonly start with a low dose such as half a 1mg tablet (0.5mg) every other day rather than daily. The right amount depends on the aromatising compound and dose being used, and it should be adjusted based on bloodwork and how you feel rather than a fixed schedule. Going too high can crash oestrogen, which brings its own set of problems, so the lowest effective dose is the usual approach.

Because it lowers oestrogen, over-use can bring on joint pain, dry skin and low libido, which are signs of oestrogen running too low rather than too high. Headaches and nausea are also reported by some users, and it can have a negative effect on lipid profile over time. Checking oestradiol alongside testosterone and a lipid panel before and during use is the usual way to keep this in check.

Anastrozole is only needed when using compounds that aromatise into oestrogen, and testosterone is the most common one that requires it. It helps prevent high-oestrogen issues such as gynaecomastia and water retention that can appear on a testosterone-based cycle. If you are running a non-aromatising compound on its own, it generally is not required.

Anastrozole works by stopping oestrogen production at the source through aromatase inhibition, while Tamoxifen instead blocks oestrogen receptors without lowering total oestrogen output. This makes Anastrozole better suited to controlling oestrogen while a compound like testosterone is actively being used on cycle. Tamoxifen tends to be the more common choice for post-cycle therapy since it does not suppress oestrogen production itself.
