Arimidex is anastrozole, an aromatase inhibitor that blocks the enzyme responsible for converting androgens into oestrogen. It is used alongside aromatising anabolic steroids such as testosterone to keep oestrogen in check. This helps reduce the risk of gynecomastia, water retention and other oestrogen-driven side effects.
How is anastrozole typically dosed?
As a guide only, and not medical advice, users commonly start with half a tablet (0.5mg) every other day and adjust based on symptoms or bloodwork, staying under 1mg per day. Anastrozole is strong, so overdoing it can crash oestrogen too low rather than just controlling it. Any dosing decision should be based on your own bloodwork and, ideally, discussed with a doctor.
What side effects should I be aware of with Arimidex?
Reported side effects include joint pain, headaches, fatigue and a drop in HDL cholesterol on the lipid panel. Pushing the dose too high can also cause low-oestrogen symptoms such as low libido and flat mood, since some oestrogen is still needed for joint health and wellbeing. Checking oestradiol, testosterone and lipids at baseline and mid-cycle is the usual way to keep the dose in the right range.
Is Arimidex the same as using Nolvadex for PCT?
No. Arimidex controls oestrogen during a cycle by inhibiting aromatase, while Nolvadex (tamoxifen) works at the receptor level and is the more common choice for post-cycle therapy to restart natural testosterone production. Many users run anastrozole during the cycle and switch to Nolvadex, sometimes with Clomid, once PCT begins. They serve different jobs rather than being interchangeable.
Can Arimidex be used on its own?
Not really. Anastrozole is designed to be used alongside an aromatising compound like testosterone, since it only has something to inhibit when there is androgen being converted to oestrogen. It is not a standalone cycle product.
