Mesterolone – Proviron

Mesterolone is an oral DHT-derived androgen, sold under the brand name Proviron. It does not aromatise into oestrogen, and unlike most oral anabolics it is not 17-alpha-alkylated, so it does not carry the same liver strain as compounds like dianabol or anavar. Its main action is binding strongly to SHBG, which frees up more active testosterone in the bloodstream and gives a firmer, harder look to the physique.

A first cycle usually starts at 25mg per day, split into two 12.5mg doses with food, and can rise to 50mg per day after two weeks if well tolerated, with 100mg per day as an upper limit. Anastrozole is an aromatase inhibitor that directly blocks the conversion of testosterone into oestrogen, and it is only needed when running aromatising compounds. Mesterolone works differently: it does not aromatise itself and instead helps indirectly by binding SHBG and freeing testosterone, with some mild anti-oestrogenic effect of its own. Many users run mesterolone alongside testosterone as a matter of course and only add anastrozole if oestrogen-related symptoms actually appear.

Proviron is oral and dosed daily with food, which suits people who want to avoid frequent injections. Short-ester injectable DHT derivatives, by contrast, need to be injected often to keep blood levels stable because the ester clears quickly. Mesterolone trades that injection frequency for a daily tablet, at the cost of it working more through SHBG binding than as a strong standalone anabolic.
